You are not just a dot.
Your actions do matter in the broad scheme of things. We get disillusioned as cogs in a machine that just spins round and round with no end in sight. This perspective can be helpful to break you out of a creative rut when things get dull or repetitive. It is also important that the decisions or actions previously taken were not in vain. What we become or achieve affects what other people close to us will achieve. In other words, what will become affects what others will become. What will be created will affect what other people will create in their own lifetimes. Any action or decision we make creates a dent in the world. It will affect our local communities, families, the broader world, and even the field in which we participate. We must seek to ensure that we rise to become what we need to become as so that others will become what they need to become
Data Is Great, But Reality Is Dynamic
Data-driven analysis is not a bad heuristic or model to predict future trends or make decisions. It has its place in our world, but something doesn't feel right. I look around and see most of the great technological advancements in the world, e.g., iPhone, Windows OS, Cathedrals, Pyramids, etc., and i realized that these weren't data-driven decisions or thoughts. They were done because it felt right, or they were visions of what mankind can achieve. The creators of these works would sound irrational using the data-driven heuristic of today. Sometimes, some decisions don't fit this model but make our world much better. These decisions or works create a foundation for greater things to spring forth. In other words, some things don't need a PowerPoint slide; they just need to get done.
