Welcome to The Layout #85, the Substack about design that makes life a little easier with fun insights and key resources to help you level up. This week's poster is a little blocky.
The Gap
We have an idea of what we want to create to look and feel like, but every time it seems that we are nowhere close to that ideal. Compared to what we imagine, our realized works look dysfunctional, inferior to what we think they should be. This is what we call The Gap. It is the gap between our actual skill level and its ideal. This is nothing to fear, but is expected in any skill journey. The key is to keep practicing, keep replicating, grow your taste in things that are fine, and you eventually bypass the Gap and be something greater
