Welcome to The Layout #78 The Substack about design that makes life a little easier with fun insights and key resources for you to level up. This week poster has pastel and classic vibe to it.
Quantity and quality
The noise builds up overwhelming us with screeches of options or content to choose from which prevents us from actually doing something worthwhile. Quantity has its advantages; more options can highlight different categories or things that were previously unseen or unknown (this is basically why social media is addictive.). Too much quantity can be countered by having a filter that consciously or subconsciously searches for material that aligns with a certain quality or a set of values that align with what needs to be achieved by you. This requires objectivity and the willingness to consider concepts such as second order effects, viability etc. It is a craft to create these quality filters but it can elevate everything around you if implemented effectively
The Tiny Details
The tiny details in any product or creation can be distinct but when seen as a whole can highlight its creativity, beauty, thoughtfulness etc. These details require obsessiveness on the part of the creator which can be time-consuming and sometimes seen as pointless because it can delay the product's launch. It is also seen as a form of procrastination or a form of fear that the product will fail. Creating the final details requires a sense of scope and focus that the creator needs or risk being overwhelmed by being too obsessive. The creator should take note of what the product should be, the limitations and scope in terms of materials currently available and also a timeframe to prevent project overruns. This process can be messy but if properly defined, it can permanently be part of your brand ethos. Shalom
