Opinion Management < management
Catering to opinions in respect to building our reputations can be something worthwhile but it can have a massive downside if too much focus is placed on this concept. Excessive opinion management can eventually make an individual or organization lose sight of its stated purpose or vision due to catering of an image that aligns with a public persona or image that is adored by everyone else. This makes actual management i.e. creation of products, delivering value etc. a lost cause because that isn't the primary focus of the individual or organization but how the organization is perceived by the outside world. It is not a bad thing to set your narratives or tell your stories to a wide audience. Just be aware of the risk of getting lost in appeasing people or cultural moments that can lead to loss in quality and productivity of an organization instead of actual management and productivity.
It's going to suck anyway, so just do it.
Staring at the blank page, imagining the things that can be created with your hands. Your mind races with things to place or create, neurons jumping from left to right visualizing images or concepts that are relatively unknown and this is your opportunity to bring those things to life. Then it hits something as it seeks to transmit these insights or images on the blank page, the perfectionism door. To bypass the door, you must accept that no matter how your good your intentions are or how well you have conceived the idea, there will be mistakes. The mistakes are not a slight on us but what makes us human. Failure to accept this won't let us through this door and which will let such intentions, ideas to die in a mental graveyard with no visible tombstone in sight. Everyone has been guilty of this including me, facing that door can be scary but if we go with the mindset that yes, novel things might not always it the mark but if we stop trying, then how will novel things get made or created. Sucking or failing is part of the creative cycle, learning to accept this will determine your success or failure in any task you do.
