Welcome to The Layout #72. The Substack about design that makes life a little easier with fun insights and key resources for you to level up. It’s been an eventful week but let’s get to it.
Share with a friend.
We don't want to share things that we have created due to the perceived reaction that we believe the public will give. This makes hold on to works or creations that might actually be very good but are hidden in the dusty corners of your computer drive. A nifty solution could be showing your works to your friend. Not just any friend, a friend that understands a little bit of what you are trying to create and won't send crude jokes but constructive criticism and suggestions that you can use to make the necessary changes to elevate your work. Sharing with a friend helps in removing the anxiety and tension that occurs when releasing something new for the world to see. Happy sharing.
Grunt work is not above you.
Grunt work. Dreaded, but necessary for any task to succeed. Grunt work is the work that isn't fun but form the foundation for work that will be make great impact now, and hopefully in the future. It tends to be work that is repetitive in nature and is considered boring and pointless. Any task being done has either a lot or minimum grunt work. Embracing grunt work is made easier by finding easier ways to get it done which can lead to surprising solutions and innovations. Just get to it no matter how jarring it is. It builds tenacity😊.
