Thinking outside the Domain.
Thinking outside the box is a common paradigm that is popular in our world but what about thinking outside our various domains? Thinking outside the box does require looking outside our narrow views but it can still restrict you to thinking within a specific domain. Thinking outside your domains requires seeing connections between the problem you are trying to solve and other obscure and far topics that are unrelated to that specific problem. Going into unknown pathways or domains e.g. philosophy, art, finance, etc. to solve various issues can lead to finding similarities that can be used to conceptualize unorthodox but effective solutions. This skill requires a lot of curiosity into domains that seem very unusual or unrelated and exploration of new concepts that are foreign to our accepted worldviews.
Trends pass away, fundamentals stick
Adapting to trends can disrupt our creative process because it makes us focus less on the fundamentals of our craft and more on impressing the outside world or generating attention. The fundamentals are the basics of any domain or topic. It takes time to find your voice, that unique spark or light that differentiates you from the crowd. Finding this by jumping on the latest sights and sounds delivered by people who have mastered the fundamentals will derail your path. They take time to master but are necessary to have a full grasp of the craft you have chosen to master. Developing this requires a lot of sacrifice and it may cost you everything but it will be worthwhile in the end.
