Be grateful for where you are
We perceive our lives to be marred by the decisions taken in the past which makes us lose sight of what we have in the present. This makes us uneasy in our present situation and makes us blind to what we have been able to accomplish. Where we are currently isn't ideally where we want to be which makes us see no need about being grateful. Being grateful is being aware that despite the hardships and bad decisions, you are still here trying your best. It makes you aware of the positive decisions you have made and most importantly, it gives you the allowance to forgive yourself of the mistakes that you have made and the capability to move on. You can start today by asking yourself what the things I am grateful for are and writing them down for future reference.
Be nice but not foolish
Being nice to people is one of the great values that individuals should have. It is one of the basic things that gives our society a sense of civility and brightness in spite of our reality. This also means that niceness can be used to manipulate people to do foolish things against their interests. Bad actors can use this to get people to do things contradictory to their values because they are trapped in the image of being nice. They also try to extract as much goodwill and niceness as possible but never reciprocate on their end. It is good to be nice but don't be foolish or blind to the peculiarities of our world
