Maybe it's all premature optimization.
The inner perfectionist comes out when trying to finish a specific project. So we perform premature optimization i.e. we never finish the project, always optimizing with the latest standards and techniques which eventually stalls the project for the unforeseeable future. This happens because we tend to optimize for future occurrences and problems in the hopes of countering them if they occur but in doing so we get stuck in development hell. This can also be caused when we don't believe our project is as good as it is and we keep stalling to avoid the rejection or failure that might occur. The key to avoiding this scenario is by ensuring that the core features of a project are well done and when the project is launched, iterate continuously to add new features or fix certain issues. We learn as we walk.
Use processes but don't be enslaved by them.
Processes are good because they organize and give a sense of direction when creating new things but they can also make us rigid when encountering situations that aren't in the script. These situations tend to occur a lot in the world because our world is unpredictable. This requires making decisions different from the processes that have been the standard. This can cause major issues or fissures within organizations. The mindset should be processes are tools that we use to get us to a desired goal. This means they can be tweaked or changed on the fly when something new is encountered. Be flexible in what you do.
