Welcome to The Layout #57. The substack about design that makes life a little easier with fun insights and key resources for you to level up.
It's not malice, it's just incompetence.
We see things that don't make sense in our worlds. Things that seem out of place or improper. Such observations lead to conspiracy theories about how those things came to reality. This avoids in-depth investigation and analysis of why such events did happen and what could be done to prevent them. This also applies to small events in our lives e.g. a loved one missed your birthday, or someone mistakenly stepped on your feet. e.t.c. This could lead us to say or do things that we may regret for the rest of our lives and the reason for those events could just be incompetence. Being careful to realize that we are all human and mistakes are inevitable should inform our decisions not just in our lives but also when creating designs to fit a broad audience. Space should be made for human error during our creative exploits. Empathy is required
Learn to delegate
People struggle with a delegation of tasks because they are worried about the competence of the individual assigned to the task. This leads to either trying to do everything by yourself or micromanaging the individual assigned the task. Delegating tasks involves patience and wisdom. Delegating tasks should be done in a way that involves delegating small tasks that don't involve a lot of technical ability and increasing the difficulty as the individual's competency rises. This requires a lot of patience and wisdom but it is worthwhile because, after all, we were all beginners once.
