Welcome to The Layout #44. The substack about design that makes life a little easier with fun insights and key resources for you to level up. Welcome back everyone, It’s been a good week. Let’s get on with it
Look at the beginning, not the end.
When successful people's habits are being evaluated, focus on the habits they used initially to achieve success, not their current ones. People who have success have a blindspot when advising people e.g. someone who initially worked long nights and had no work-life balance even to achieve an MVP for his product will tell newbies in the field that it’s all about having balance and whatnot. The successful person can even give advice that makes sense for someone who has already made it but not for someone who wants to start. The key lesson is to learn the habits that initially created successful companies, actions, or people and adapt them to your reality. Use appropriately.
Recognize the plateau
Plateaus are periods in your development when progress doesn’t seem to be made. When learning a new skill, some topics or parts slow you down due to their complexity and newness. These moments or periods can cause internal frustration or pain and cause a lot of despair. They can also take a mental toll and can make us abandon the quest for which we have chosen. To pass through this phase, we must reframe our mind to think of it as a “phase”(winks). A necessary baptism of fire by which we must pass to be seen as worthy to acquire such skills. A test but a worthy one for our future and our goals. Ease.
