Welcome to The Layout #3. Apologies for the late release. Some complicated business came up and they have been hopefully resolved. So, lets get going shall we.
Thoughts about Self-Discipline
Oh discipline. We hate it but fortunately or unfortunately it is a necessary factor in any field of life. I was reading a book the other day and saw an interesting perspective about self-discipline that reshaped my thinking a little bit. Take a look.
Just remember that self-discipline is not self-suppression. Suppression is when you resist and fight against your desires, keeping them as buried and unexpressed as possible. Self-discipline is when your highest desires rule your lesser desires, not through resistance, but through loving action grounded in understanding and compassion.
In other words, true self-discipline is when you let your highest desires (Design goals etc.) rule over your lesser desires (Procrastination etc.). It is easier said than done but it is not impossible.
Diversify Your Skillset
There is a little online war ongoing on whether designers should code or not. there are many reasons for each option and I understand where they are coming from. What I will say is that this discussion shows us the need to diversify our skillset in this new economy. With the rise of AI chatbots and so forth. We can’t depend on just being one-sided, it could be writing or just learning a different design niche. You don’t really need to be an expert on it but competent enough to showcase it.
Wise Redesign
Everyone has been talking about the Wise redesign and I just have to say they really went big and bold. Bold fonts and colours are the brand's latest iteration to differentiate itself from its competition
They went big literally.

Caveday is a website that lets you participate in focus group work sessions to get work done with other people around the globe. A unique concept playing on certain psychological biases to get work done and also group accountability. A product to look out for.
