Welcome to The Layout #37. The substack about design that makes life a little easier with fun insights and key resources for you to level up. Welcome back everyone, It’s been a long break. Now let’s get on with it
Kill pride before it kills you
Pride kills, not quickly but slowly. We should all be aware of what pride is, it could stop our growth without us noticing it. Pride must be killed before we can learn new things or grasp new concepts. It prevents us from coming in with fresh eyes or perspectives and blinds us to our assumptions. It can also cause us to make costly mistakes and be trapped in worldviews that we perceive as right. Now, this doesn't mean we shouldn't be proud of our accomplishments or goals that we have achieved. You can enjoy the successes that you have and use them to push for higher and transcendent goals. The key is not to be blinded by those wins, so as not to lose sight of the long-term goals you have set for yourself. Stay humble folks.
Appreciation 101
Got this advice years ago from an email. If you want to show appreciation to the people around you i.e. your work colleagues, family, etc. The best way is to remind them of the things they do even though it looks minute to the scale of things. E.g. Hello Evelyn, I appreciate that you always look the best for me even though I am a little rash. Thank you very much etc. Just a little message can brighten someone's day.
