Welcome to The Layout #37. The substack about design that makes life a little easier with fun insights and key resources for you to level up. Now, let’s get on with it.
Blank Page Blues.
It all starts with a blank page. We tend to get stuck on certain ideas in our minds which fool us that we have a comprehensive grasp of what we are trying to solve or articulate. The best way to clear the air regarding these thoughts or ideas is to write them down on a blank page. The blank page doesn't judge or need to be seen by others. It is a page that is meant for us to review whether those thoughts or ideas are viable in the real world. This helps us refine our thoughts and ideas, giving them a sense of fun and weight when applied in the real world.
Give Yourself A Little Failure Runway
When attempting something new or challenging i.e. a new project, a new direction for your art or work, etc. Give yourself a failure runway i.e. the maximum amount of times you are allowed to fail. This could mean out of ten attempts for a certain project, you are allowed to fail 9 times. This takes a lot of tension and expectations off you and makes you fully commit to the task. What makes this thought process extra effective is using the lessons learned from the previous failures and using it to make the final attempt the last. Food for thought
