No Skin In The Game.? Walk Out!
We can get roped into certain dreams or ideologies that seek to propel us to achieve a goal that seems impossible. This could be certain art movements or critiques of existing ideologies. The key reason why most times these movements fail is because the leaders or originators have no skin in the game i.e. if the approach backfires, they won't feel any impact. Due to no skin in the game, these leaders are ready to employ strategies that are radical and not sensible in the long run because they have nothing to lose. They don't care if everything burns in their way as long as they get what they want at the expense of others. It is essential before you commit people to a long-term project or cause that they have skin in the game i.e. a stake that keeps them tied to that cause which prevents irrational or destructive decisions.
Risk is kinda complicated
It has been a common trope that most of the people who make very risky bets that become successful are avid risk takers and danger seekers. The truth is most people who take high risks have a 100% certainty that the bet placed will pay off. These people make sure they collate enough data and references to make sure that their ideas are viable. This means before attempting high-risk ventures, there needs to be enough research that gives a very high rate of certainty and confidence to make that bet. Top performers don’t take risks out of the blue, they have done their risk analysis to determine the next course of action. Do note that this is not a guarantee for success but it increases your chances when you make your plays.
