Welcome to The Layout #2. It’s been a long week. We have been fighting poorly planned policies and trying to get our hands on our hard-earned cash and we have an election coming this week. Oof!, kinda tense. Strap in and let’s get it on.
Thoughts about Perfection
We all know the quote “Perfection is the enemy of the good”. That’s what I thought for a long time until I listened to a podcast that gave me another perspective regarding perfection. The quote misleads people by emphasising being good initially but most people i.e. designers, coders etc. first items or work they produce are usually not up to standard. This is fine because through criticism and refining our skills, we eventually get to the “good” stage and later “Perfection”.
Design Vision.
This is not a thesis of my design vision but a brief explanation of how looking at things for the rest of your will improve your work whether you are a designer or not. I call this Design Vision. Everything in this world has a sense of design field within them i.e. a chair has legs which are used to elevate the top, A toothbrush has a handle etc.
Sometimes we go through life and take these little things for granted and we lose appreciation for those things. We need to train our design vision by looking at how everything is designed around us. It could be anything books, mirrors, doors, etc. This can be used to learn why some things are designed a certain way and have a greater sense of appreciation for the mundane things in life.
Also, it can help improve your work a little bit too.
