Welcome to The Layout #18. Hope everyone is having a good week. Even though things look dire, we must find joy in the little things. I just thought of that right now and let’s begin
Appreciate the classics.
We live in an era where there is a high tendency to deconstruct old artforms for the sake of posterity or to criticize great people's faults and flaws. This is done to get prominence and accolades in the modern world but it also comes from a sense of jealousy too. It also comes from a mindset of being different for the sake of being different too.
There is an innate fear that we might never reach the heights that they set that's why we mock their ways. We should learn to appreciate the people and artforms that did it in the past with limited toolsets and large creative constraints. We must also learn to adapt and use to create something new.
Maybe one day, we might also be one of the greats.
You got to be RestMaxxing
There was a recent tweet about people shouldn't sleep a lot in order to reach their goals. There were a lot of follow-up tweets about how sleep is essential for our creative process and health too. They are right about this but people are different in their rest profiles. The key element when it comes to sleep and rest is to maximise as little as you have daily.
This could be some things as simple as wearing a Sleep Mask, learning how to fall asleep faster, increasing your magnesium intake, exercising optimally etc. Not everyone is going to have perfect sleep every day but the least we can do is to maximise the sleep we get.
