Welcome to The Layout #16 everyone. Happy new month everyone. We must still stay on the path of improvement and mastery. Let’s begin
Ado About The Haters.
The "Haters" concept has been popularized by pop culture over the years. The term denotes that there are people who hate you for existing, your wins, possessions, etc. It was mainly popularized by rappers to create an "everyone is against me" mindset which can be used as motivation to achieve your goals. Well, the reality is there are people who will tend to hate you and covet what you have but they won't do anything against you. Most people don't really have time to target people that they don't like. They hate you but not really to the point that they will try to attack or harm you. So, escape the spotlight effect, and don't worry about the haters.
You Got Skin In the Game, Bruv.
Skin In The Game was a concept that originated from IBM and was popularized by Nassim Taleb's book of the same name. It means that e.g. a certain CEO is about to undertake a risky investment for his company, he must have a stake in the company which will put him at risk of losing his money if the investment fails or gains his money if the investment succeeds. In other words, people that want to take decisions that affect others should not be mitigated by the failures or risks involved in those decisions.
This provides an incentive for decision-makers to make sensible and calculated decisions. This leads me to my main point. There have been various movements all around the world encouraging people to make rash decisions to make a statement. Most of the time, the leaders of such movements have no stake if it fails i.e. they will be fine and escape any serious blowback on their end. While the followers of such movements are liable for any risks incurred when making certain decisions that may affect them for the rest of their lives. We need to be careful and wary of people who don't have skin in the game telling us or persuading us to make decisions that aren't calculated and sensible. Fin.
