Welcome to The Layout #10 everyone. Wow, 10 issues already. It has not been easy but we thank God for the will and the strength to go on. Well then, let’s get it going shall we?
Aim for that 1%.
We should use a simple heuristic in our daily lives which is called the "1% rule" (this could be a real rule or I just made it up who knows). It is a rule that states how you can improve a process or routine you do daily by 1%. It could be a minor improvement in your fitness regimen, or just arranging your workspace to make your work better. You are probably saying to me 'Well this just adds 1%, it is not a huge margin". Well, due to compound interest, this will eventually lead to huge returns in the future.
increasing the efficiency of your daily routines by just 1% might make no difference but consistently following this heuristic will lead to huge returns in the future. The things that I did was to use a laptop stand and a palm rest to help me with my workflow. What are the things you do that give you an extra 1%?
Don't be different for the sake of being different.
We have all heard the popular phrase which is "Be Different". Be unique or special and so forth. It is one of the most enchanting ideas in our modern century but this also creates a trap into which too many people fall in. People try to be different for the sake of being different. They adopt fashion styles, vocabularies, mindsets, and ideologies for the sake of being different. Sometimes, it can even be used to make you look like you are above others in a social group or community.
People seem to forget that the people who actually were different e.g. Steve Jobs etc. were different because they had unique ideas and ideologies that made them see and shape the world in a unique way. The harsh reality is that most people are not like that and that is not a bad thing.
There is nothing wrong with being the same or having the same thought patterns as other people. Does this mean that you should just follow the crowd at every whim? Of course not! What this means is that if you want to be truly different, do it because you have genuine ideas and philosophies not just to distinguish yourself from the crowd.
