You have probably never heard of Joachim Andersen but if you used the FPL app at the beginning of the season, he was a household name due to his defensive and offensive performances. Unlike other football leagues, where you hardly know the players in a team that isn’t a top team. The Premier League is in a class of its own due to fan engagement and the FPL app which acts as a unique onboarding vehicle for viewers of the league.
How does it do it you may ask? Well, through very interesting and simple methods.
It keeps users engaged.
The app keeps users engaged by presenting the latest transfer news, injuries and interesting sports stories that may affect their fantasy teams. E.g. Man City just sent Joao Cancelo on loan, here’s how your team might look with other options etc. Using specific shows that highlight prospective fantasy picks and predicting league results. This gives the average fan access to a wealth of information that keeps them returning for more.
Showcasing of PL History Or Stories.
The app is a gateway to exciting trivia, facts and premier league history. It also acts as a storytelling platform which tells stories about club rivalries, matchups, cult heroes etc. This gives the user an inside view of the history of the premier league and makes them loyal to the league and inspires them to be part of new stories that will be told for future generations to come.
Good old competition.
Last but not the least, competition is also a major driver of why people use the app. Most people judge a premier league fan's expertise by the number of points he has racked up on his fantasy team. Comparing who has the highest scores in a game is an activity as old as time and it is used effectively here to keep users engaged and knowledgeable about the league stories, news etc.
Therefore the FPL is the ultimate onboarding platform, the question is why aren’t other leagues implementing this?
